Who We Are
Our Mission
Our Philosophy

Dr. Charles "Cy" Carpenter is the Center's Medical Director. He graduated from Tulane Medical School and completed a residency specialty in Preventive Medicine. In addition to his traditional medical training, he aspired to follow in the footsteps of visionary physicians who established and outlined the model of integrative holistic medicine. In his own healing journey, he has pursued extensive studies in integrative and mind body medicine from well-known leaders in the field of complementary medicine such as Herbert Benson of Harvard Medical School, Andrew Weil of the University of Arizona and neurosurgeon, Dr. Norm Shealy. In addition, he has apprenticed with many other healers of various traditions.

He received his Board Certification from the American Board of Preventive Medicine and is also Board Certified by the American Board of Holistic Medicine. He is a medical educator having taught both medical students, residents, physicians and the public. He also is a motivational speaker, radio personality, tai chi and qi gong meditation teacher.

Early on in his training, Dr. Cy met a wise Chinese healer, Sifu Peter Hom, and wished to study under him as an apprentice. Sifu, which is a Chinese word for master/teacher, told Dr. Cy that he would only have him as a student if he would vow to hold certain ideals. In the ancient times, these vows were traditionally passed on from teacher to student in a long unbroken lineage of healers.

Following the ceremony and the taking of these vows, Dr. Cy has held these ideals as a foundation of his commitment to practicing the art of healing and he established this Center to serve his fellow human beings. These vows became the mission of the Center and are as follows: We will treat anyone that comes to us as we would our own family, never being motivated by their status, wealth or condtion in life. We will deliver care that attends to and honors a person's wholeness or all that makes up the fabric of the tapestry of their life. We will support one's inherent capacity for self healing in a partnership where our single overriding intention is that of love, compassion and service.

The Center's model of integrative healthcare is based upon fundamental principles which create the potential and opportunity to realize optimal health and wellness. We recognize that the best medicine is "Health Medicine" or medicine that is proactive, preventive and focuses on wellness, health promotion and disease prevention. As individuals learn how to heal themselves, they not only just recover from their disease, but they go on to pursue healthier, more meaningful lives and manifest peak states of physical, mental and social well being and performance.

At the core of this Holistic Health Medicine model is one's individual self care. Health is not something that can be given or done to you. The road to a healthy body, mind and spirit requires one's active pariticipation and commitment to the healing process. We develop a partnership with you where you may safely begin to do your own self exploration and discovery. We facilitate your healing process by providing you with the tools that complement the deep wisdom within yourself and which support your own particular and unique path towards health.

Landmark studies regarding integrative medicine demonstrate that the American public wants greater control, responsibilities and choices regarding various healing modalities. People desire the best of both worlds; which is having their health practitioners understand the value, philosophy and treatments of both conventional and alternative medicine. The future of medicine is no longer a single bullet, one size fits all approach. At our center, we tailor care to your specific needs and collaborate with a wide variety of holistic practitioners, in addition to your conventional primary care doctors and specialists. We believe that a community of practitioners collaborating together, with open dialogue and a common vision, delivers the best holistic, healing care for your needs.

Being committed to integrative wholistic care, we treat the whole person and not just one's symptoms or disease. An individual is a complex interrelated physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual being and illness is a dysfunction of the whole person and not an isolated mechanical problem. We address and support the healing process of all these aspects of a person's life. In this way, we not only assist in alleviating one's symptoms but we facilitate the person's own inner process, at their own pace and conscious direction, in delving into the deeper levels of their psychological and spiritual health and well being.

I would rather know the person who has the disease rather than the disease that the person has. - HIPPOCRATES
