Our Center embraces the integrative, holistic health approach by treating the individual and not the disease. We begin this individualized process through an extensive one-on-one interaction, beginning with a thorough assessment and evaluation from an integrated viewpoint. This initial integrated health appraisal utilizes various tools from conventional medicine to Chinese and ayurvedic medicine to give us a comprehensive picture of you. We not only examine your unique biochemical and energetic physiological blueprint, but we seek to discover your own particular set of beliefs, values, philosophy and spiritual orientation that define you and create the life that you live. It is by considering all aspects of the patient's life - body, mind and spirt - that we can view the person's level of health in the context of their entire life story.
Collaborating with you in a partnership, we then use this information to design an integrated care program, aligning it to your particular needs and situation. We meet you where you are on your healing journey so that the treatments, strategies and healthy change solutions are feasible and attainable. We incorporate a diverse range of healing modalities, to find the most effective approach that harnesses and supports the innate self healing potential that exists in everyone.
The range of our center's healing modalities include:

The foundation of health is the foods, herbs and spices that one eats. Here at the center, we believe that optimizing one's health requires more than generic recommendations and one size fits all dietary approaches. The complexities of your health require a nutritional program that is unique for you.
As part of your holistic program, we develop specific strategies using a judicious combination of foods, nutritional
supplements and herbs designed to address your individual constitutional needs. Along with Chinese, western and ayurvedic priniciples, we utilize a highly comprehensive blood chemistry to identify your body's biochemical imbalances. Our recommendations are done in a logical and systematic way, tailoring a plan that is practical and economical.

Acupuncture is one of the oldest, most commonly used and safest medical procedures in the world, dating back more than 2000 years. It is a sophisticated method of promoting healing and improving functioning in the body. A practitioner detects electrophysiological (traditionally called chi) imbalances and then redirects and reestablishes the proper flow of this energy in the body.
Acupuncture is performed by inserting very tiny, thin needles slightly beneath the surface at precise acupuncture points. In addition, the practitioner may use heat or electrical stimulation to enhance the treatment. There are several different styles of acupuncture, and Dr. Carpenter has apprenticed with a variety of master acupuncturists. His style is an integrative one, being a combination of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Five Element.
Acupuncture is a system of healing that can affect three main areas of one's health. The first is that it promotes and optimizes healthy functioning and well-being in the body. Through regular treatments, the self-healing capacity of the body will be strengthened and leads to the second aspect which is that it prevents diseases from occurring. Traditionally, acupuncture was used most frequently to prevent disease and not allow it to take root in the body, which then makes treatment more difficult and time-consuming. Third, acupuncture is used to treat a wide range of medical conditions, including:
- Digestive disorders - IBS, GERD/constipation
- Respiratory disorders - eg. asthma, sinusitis, bronchitis, recurrent chest infections
- Neurological disorders - eg. headaches, migraines, facial tics
- Muscular disorders - eg. low back pain, neck pain, frozen shoulder, sciatica, tendonitis, osteoarthritis/injuries
- Urinary/menstrual/reproductive problems
- Fibromyalgia/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/dental pain/post operative nausea and vomiting
- Addictions
- Stroke Rehabilitation

Ayurveda is one of the world's oldest and most ancient medical systems. It originated in India and has evolved over thousands of years providing primary medical care to millions of people in India and Southeast Asia. Literally translated, Ayurveda means the "the science or truth of life" and/or "the knowledge of longevity." This complete system of healing recognizes that physical well-being is connected to our innate biological rhythms, cycles and to the deepest laws of nature. Ayurveda is the premier holistic medicine system, which incorporates detailed knowledge of the interactions between consciousness, spirit and body. As with Chinese medicine and acupuncture therapy, ayurvedic practitioners will inquire into one's diet, behavior and lifestyle practices. In addition, the practitioner will take a person's pulse to discern more information about the functioning of the body and will carefully observe physical/mental characteristics such as the tongue, skin, weight, worries, fears etc. Following this assessment, a treatment plan is developed and a variety of healing techniques are used to help restore balance and health in the body. These therapies include diet, herbs, massage, medicinal oil and vital points therapy, aromatherapy, and specific physical and meditation exercises.
The process by which we heal according to Ayurvedic medicine is through reconnecting to the underlying field of wholeness out of which all Life comes and then reestablishing, rebalancing and rejuvenating this flow of energy in our body. A major objective of ayurvedic practice is to cleanse and detox the body of substances which can cause disease. Many of the purification therapies and therapeutic processes focus on enhancing the function of the digestive and respiratory systems for cleansing the body. After eliminating impurities from the body, the practitioner targets other physical and psychological symptoms. Ayurveda is a complete healing system and is used to address an extensive variety of diseases and health issues, very similar to acupuncture and Chinese medicine, as listed above.

Various studies demonstrate that between 60 and 90% of physician visits are due to stress related illnesses which highlights the supreme importance of harnessing the mind body connection for health. The types of mind body interventions utilized at our center include cognitive behavioral therapy, meditation techniques, interactive guided imagery, emotional coping and relaxation tools, autogenic training, hypnosis, qi gong and group therapy.
